Dear homemaker, there is something about a relaxed Sunday reset, right? It’s become one of my favorite homemaking rhythms. As with most of my routines, I keep it light and flexible.
In this post, I’m sharing my simple Sunday Reset and free checklist! Swipe mine or make your own!
SUNDAY RESET
Long ago, I decided to take a simple, relaxing approach to my homemaking style. I try to simplify everything I do in hopes of reducing stress. My current Sunday reset routine is no exception and is very basic.
I’ve found it helpful to include just a few tasks that make a significant impact with minimal effort. Little by little is my motto!
I can organize for the week ahead and prepare for the weekly home blessing come Monday!
Daily Tasks
1) Load of laundry
2) Kitchen tidy
3) 10-minute pickup
4) Swish & swipe (bathroom tidy)
5) Make the bed
I make an effort to complete my homemaking tasks every day. They make keeping a home clean and welcoming simple and sustainable.
I enjoy starting off my Sunday reset by ensuring I’m covering the basics of what keeps our home running and functional.
Homemaking Tips: Having a tried and true rhythm that keeps your home baseline clean and functioning will always make whatever else you do that day easier lol, pinky promise!
Clean & Organize The Fridge
I’ll set a timer for 7 minutes to clean out and organize the fridge. The timer keeps me focused and prevents me from dragging the task out longer than needed!
Here is what I’ll do:
wipe/vacuum spills/debris inside the fridge door
declutter + organize inside the fridge door
wipe/vacuum spills/debris fridge shelves from top to bottom
declutter + organize fridge shelves
wipe down the outside of the fridge
I don’t always get to finish each step in my process, and that’s okay. I know that it'll become easier to maintain as I return to it each week. When I’m ready to deep clean the fridge, it will be a breeze!
Homemaking Tip: I’ve found by refreshing the fridge each week, we waste less food, meal planning is a bit easier, and putting groceries away is a breeze.
Check/Update Budget
Plain and straightforward budgeting/money can get to a stressful place quickly.
It’s certainly not my intention to rile myself or my husband up. Instead, I just like to take a few minutes to make sure the bills are going through + peek at how much spending money we have left.
This is how a typical budget check-in/update looks for us:
Look at transactions for our bills checking account + check them off on our bills tracker.
Look at transactions for our spending account + add them to the appropriate category. Update current amounts left to spend.
I get my husband up to speed on all the numbers, discuss any goals or concerns, and we are done! We rarely spend more than 10 minutes on the budget update.
I purposely keep the categories for our spending account very basic.
Food, Fuel, and Misc.
This makes tracking what we have left to spend really, really easy + fast!
Homemaking Tip: We check in with our budget every Sunday + Wednesday! Having specific days to check in has helped us in countless ways! I would say that it’s been most helpful in helping us create a safe space + habit to talk about our finances and keep things organized.
Plan The Week Ahead
I’m just taking a peek at the week ahead and mostly jotting down what zone we will be in for the Flylady system this week and what I’d like to work on.
If you haven't noticed, we don’t get wild around here, so I don’t plan much beyond meals, FlyLady zones, appointments, and important events/dates!
Meal Plan & Grocery List
Everything else I’ve done for my Sunday reset has made meal planning and creating a grocery list easier!
I love planning a month’s worth of meals at a time! I create a new meal plan for the upcoming month on the last Sunday of each month. I’ve been working on three-month meal plans for spring/summer and fall/winter. Once I have those created, I won’t have to actually meal plan again! #goals, lol.
Because I already have a monthly meal plan, I will confirm that those meals work with our week ahead and make a grocery list!
done done and done
Homemaking Tip: If you know, you know, having a meal plan (even if it’s loose) will save you time, money, and sanity! Game changer!
Make Soup
Making soup each Sunday has quickly become one of my favorite little traditions, and it just so happens to help us step into our week on the right foot.
Soup is easy to make, nourishing, and affordable. Basically, it’s an effortless way to meal prep for the week.
I’ll make one of our favorite soups for dinner that night, and the leftovers will go in the fridge for easy lunches for the first part of the week!
Make it healthier: Instead of regular ol’ broth, use bone broth! Bone broth is rich in minerals & adds a nice boost of complete protein!
